New sales data from British Apple & Pears Ltd (BAPL) shows strong movement of UK-grown apples across major supermarket chains in October 2025, with clear differences in retailer performance.
Aldi topped the rankings, sourcing just under 2,900 tons of British apples from BAPL growers. Lidl followed with close to 2,500 tons, while Tesco purchased more than 1,900 tons. Sainsbury's secured around 1,700 tons, ahead of Asda at just over 1,200 tons and Morrisons at roughly 900 tons. M&S, Waitrose, and the Co-op remained mid-table, while Ocado, Iceland, and smaller outlets recorded lower volumes.

When comparing British apple volumes with grocery market share, discount retailers again outperformed their size. Aldi sold more than 20 per cent of all British apples handled by BAPL growers, despite representing a smaller share of the total UK grocery market. Lidl reported a similar pattern. Tesco, while holding the largest total grocery market share, ranked third in British apple volumes.

Waitrose, M&S, and the Co-op continued to buy British fruit at levels above their relative grocery share, indicating consistent sourcing strategies focused on domestic supply. By contrast, Iceland and smaller retailers reported very limited uptake.
