Moroccan mandarin exports saw a remarkable increase last season. In the Nadorcott variety alone, 325,000 tons were exported from Morocco in the 2024/25 season, marking a 43.81% increase. According to Mohamed Saiidi, this increase is partly due to improved rainfall, but the main reason remains the opening up of the variety to more growers.
The grower explains, "The Nadorcott variety is a flagship variety of mandarins grown in Morocco, appreciated by producers for its yields. The licensing of the variety and its opening up to growers has logically led to a sharp increase in its acreage and production volumes, and subsequently in exports."

Appreciated by growers for its agronomic properties, the Nadorcott variety is also popular among consumers in several markets for its ease of peeling and seedlessness, as well as its balance between sweetness and acidity. Its season runs from January to May, a commercial window with a lateness advantage over other origins according to the Nadorcott of Morocco association. The same source reports that the variety is now cultivated by over 3,000 growers in the regions of Souss-Massa, Marrakech, Berkane, and Gharb.
The licensing of the variety to more growers has been accompanied by better rainfall last season and overall better weather conditions in the country, which is experiencing a long period of drought. Saiidi adds, "We have seen good rainfall in recent days, boding well for the next mandarin season, which begins in a few months. These rains are very reassuring and will be reflected in planting decisions and yields. Export volumes for Moroccan Nadorcott will therefore continue on their upward trend."
"At Vergers Domaine Tarifit, we have introduced the Nadrocott variety this season on an area of 20 hectares," Saiidi concludes.
