The Moroccan cucumber season is progressing calmly, following a season marked by stagnant demand towards the end of last season. Mohammed Ennaciri, CEO of Victory Fresh, provides an update on the situation.

The exporter, who had pointed to a drop in demand and prices last season, says: "The new season started at the end of October, and we are seeing that the area under cultivation in the Agadir region has remained more or less stable thanks to export contracts. Last season's sluggish campaign has not really had an impact on acreage. "
Cucumber growers have been spared the effects of the heat waves that have affected other greenhouse-grown products, Ennaciri explains. He adds: "With a few exceptions, the impact of the heat waves has not been excessive and yields are normal. "
Early-season prices for French cucumber varieties are also stable, Ennaciri adds. "We are seeing the same prices as at the start of last season, particularly among exporters working under fixed-price contracts, at around MAD 150 per 30 kg box," he continues.
Volumes at the start of the season are still low, with peaks expected between January and March, according to the exporter. He concludes, "Dutch varieties of small-sized cucumbers, whose first harvests are expected later in November, are in highest demand on the European market and make up the bulk of our exports."
