Uzbekistan's consumer market showed moderate overall inflation in October, but fruit and vegetable prices experienced sharp fluctuations, according to recent market data.
The vegetable segment saw the steepest price hikes, led by tomatoes (+61%) and cucumbers (+58.2%), making them the month's most expensive produce items. Analysts attribute this surge to seasonal transitions, as greenhouse-grown vegetables begin to replace open-field varieties, typically resulting in higher production and logistics costs.
Eggplant prices also rose by 11.3%, contributing to the overall upward trend in the vegetable market. Meanwhile, some produce became more affordable:
- Lemons fell in price by nearly 10%,
- Carrots, cabbage, and onions dropped by more than 5% each.
