"Competition in the Middle East and Asia is increasing as more origins target these destinations"

Demand for Greek kiwis have calmed down a bit after a strong start, says Apostolos Tsinoglou, owner of the Greek kiwi exporter Europe Export: "Kiwi export activity began at a good pace, with early shipments performing well in both European and overseas markets. However, in recent weeks, the market has shown signs of slowing, as demand has temporarily softened and buyers have become more selective. Despite this short-term adjustment, the overall outlook for the season remains positive, with consistent quality, competitive pricing, and well-organized logistics underpinning Greece's strong position in global kiwifruit trade."

According to Tsinoglou, the competition in the Middle East and Asia is increasing, with more origins becoming available in these regions. "Trading activity has slowed in recent weeks due to most importers and distributors having secured their initial volumes. This temporary adjustment is typical for this stage of the campaign, as markets balance early-season enthusiasm with actual consumption levels at retail. In overseas markets such as the Middle East and Asia, competition is increasing as more origins target these high-growth destinations. However, Greek kiwifruit continues to stand out for its freshness, high dry matter content, and reliable logistics performance."

Tsinoglou states that sales are down in overseas markets, compared to last season: "In Europe, prices remain steady, supported by healthy retail and wholesale movement. In overseas destinations such as the Middle East and Asia, prices are also holding up well, reflecting both robust consumption and the cost of maintaining reliable logistics. Compared to last season, the market appears to be experiencing a downward trend in sales by -20%, according to statistics up to 31/10/2025, with more price fluctuations and worse alignment between supply and demand."

Europe Export 2026 was an exhibitor in Madrid and Tsinoglou proudly presented the company's kiwi mascot during the trade fair. "We exhibited for the first time ever during Fruit Attraction, and everything was perfect. The surprise we prepared, our very own kiwi costume, or mascot, stole the show! We welcomed our partners with smiles and met a lot of new people with the same passion and appetite for work as us."

"In the coming weeks, we expect stable demand in most international markets for Greek kiwifruit, supported by the strong reputation of Greek produce for its quality, taste, and shelf life. Early-season exports have shown steady momentum, particularly in Europe and the Middle East, while we anticipate continued growth in Asia, where consumption remains on the rise," Tsinoglou concludes.
