The Northern Hemisphere off to a strong start with growing volumes and top quality

Jingold, the kiwi specialist specializing in innovative yellow, red, and green-fleshed varieties, has started the new commercial season off on the right foot. With 2,500 hectares of land, 2,000 of which are in Italy, and a network of 850 producers spanning the Northern and Southern hemispheres, the Italian company continues to grow. Its presence in the European and international markets is strengthened by a production model based on innovation, premium quality, and sustainability.

"The 2025-2026 season opens with a positive outlook for all our varieties," said Jingold's general manager, Alessandro Fornari. "The increase in Northern Hemisphere production areas and the entry into production of new plants allow us to extend the marketing period and respond more promptly to growing global demand."

From a quality standpoint, this season rivals the best performances of the past few years. The optimal ripening parameters were reached a few days earlier than in 2024, and the distribution of the gauges is largely consistent with that of the previous campaign. Jingold's general manager points out, "Careful technical management and consistent monitoring allow us to identify the optimal harvest time for each orchard and ensure a consistent level of quality despite varying weather conditions."

Kiwi: World production is increasing, and Jingold is playing an important role in this growth
World kiwi production (around 1.6 million tons, excluding China) is expected to grow for the 2025/26 season, with an estimated increase of over 10 percent compared to the 2024/25 season. New Zealand is the main driver of this growth, continuing to increase its production of yellow kiwis. However, several other countries are also increasing production, indicating a healthy market with balanced supply and demand.

"In recent years, world kiwi production has grown at an average rate of 3-4% per year," says Fornari. "New Zealand has been the driving force in the Southern Hemisphere, and a system of interconnected arteries has formed among the main producing countries in the Northern Hemisphere. For example, when Hayward kiwifruit production dropped in Italy, production increased in Greece, keeping overall availability stable."

Italy has taken advantage of this situation by gradually shifting its production to yellow kiwis. It is now the primary producer of yellow kiwis in the Northern Hemisphere, with approximately 100 thousand tons, second only to New Zealand.

"The growth trend of the Italian yellow kiwi is now consolidated," Fornari continues. "Jingold is part of this development, contributing to it with an average annual production increase of 15%, thanks to the constant growth of cultivated areas and new plantings made in partnership with producers in the most suitable areas of the Peninsula."

Yellow kiwi: The driving force behind business growth
The yellow kiwi is at the core of Jingold's business and the main driver of its development. Thanks to its exclusive global licenses for the innovative Jintao and Jinyan varieties, Jingold is one of the world's leading producers. The forecast for the 2025/2026 season is to market 25 thousand tons of yellow-flesh kiwifruit. Production is steadily increasing by 15% annually, with yields and quality comparable to the best results of recent years.

Red kiwi: Increasing demand and new cultivation zones
The outlook is also excellent for red-fleshed kiwis. Jingold controls over 50% of the national production of these kiwis. The company holds the exclusive license for the Oriental Red variety, which it sells under the brand name Exotic Red. This gives Jingold a strong presence in the European market. The forecast for the new season is to commercialize over 2,000 tons of Exotic Red, a 15% increase.

"Every year, we increase the areas dedicated to red kiwifruit, which is gaining popularity," says Fornari. "The increase in volumes allows us to expand our customer portfolio and introduce this innovative fruit to a growing number of consumers in Italy and abroad."

Green kiwi and Jingold Bliss
The green-fleshed kiwi campaign is expected to resemble last season's for the premium Hayward and Jingold Bliss (Boerica variety) kiwis. Despite initial forecasts of increased production in Italy and Greece, the market is experiencing a slight shortage, resulting in higher prices. "Sales of Jingold green kiwis have just started in Europe and overseas at higher prices than in 2024," says the general manager. "We plan to start full-scale marketing in week 46."

Jingold Organic
The company markets yellow- and green-fleshed kiwifruit under the Jingold Organic brand. Red kiwifruit is still in the development phase. Currently, the organic segment accounts for around 5% of Jingold's yellow kiwi production. Jingold plans to steadily increase its production in line with established growth expectations, given the ongoing robust demand for organic products.

Innovation and sustainability at the centre
From the application of genetic selection to the adoption of advanced agronomic practices, Jingold persists in its investment in technology, varietal research, and efficient resource management. These elements are pivotal in ensuring the consistency of quality, food safety, and international competitiveness. "Our goal," Fornari concludes, "is to continue offering consumers around the world superior-quality kiwifruit, the result of a sustainable production model and a supply chain that combines experience, innovation, and passion."
