The comment of the farmers:

Excellent yields for a newly introduced strawberry variety

According to the feedback of some Italian strawberry operators, the Llosana variety stands out due to its productive and commercial results in the current season, as it has shown significant performance in terms of fruit quantity and quality, arousing interest for the next campaigns.

Leo De Pascalis, owner of a farm in Scanzano Jonico (Matera), planted about 18,000 plants in a year that was already over for many, and describes Llosana as an amazing variety, especially in terms of yields.

"We obtained over 750 g of fruit per plant. Although I stopped harvesting, I do not believe that this was due to the cultivar's limitations, but rather to the lack of manpower, which makes it difficult to manage all the strawberry groves, also considering the speed needed at this warmer time of year. I am pleased with the quantities produced, the appearance of the fruits with their conical shape, and the average fruit size of 30 g. On the commercial front, the variety showed good price stability, fitting into a market that is considered to be flourishing. The highest price at the beginning of the season, in January, was around 5-6 €/kg, and then it reached the current 1.50 €/kg. (Pictured below: left, Giambattista Glinni. Right, Leo De Pascalis. Giambattista Glinni, another local producer, also confirms the production potential of this variety. After transplanting on 4-year-old raised beds on 10 October 2024, harvesting began on 16 December 2024. "So far, I have harvested 964 g/plant, but operations are expected to finish over the weekend (the past weekend, ed.), mainly because we are starting with other summer products such as melons. I have planted 20 acres (8.09 hectares) of Llosana for the current season, but have already confirmed to the distributor the purchase of the seedlings needed to increase the area for the next strawberry campaign."

Llosana is distributed in Basilicata by Fornabaio Piantine, a company specialising in the sale of strawberry seedlings and operating since 1975. "Several producers are still harvesting a cultivar of the 'plug' type in June, with more than satisfactory quantitative and qualitative results," says Rocco Marzo. "Orders for the next season have already been completed, meaning that there is no availability. The Llosana variety has been doing very well for more than five months, both in terms of quantity and shelf-life."

Fornabaio Piantine also supplies the following strawberry fresh plants and plugs: Fortuna, Arwen, Flavia, Medi, Belvedere, and others
