"M200 rootstock receives top innovation award at SIVAL 2025"

Dalival set high standards once again at SIVAL 2025, which was held in Angers in January. The company presented its M200 rootstock, a product resulting from 5 decades of research, which was awarded a SIVAL d'Or.

The award, presented by a panel of professionals, recognizes a rare event in fruit-growing. "Recognition by the SIVAL d'Or highlights the importance of the M200 rootstock in meeting the technical, environmental, and economic challenges facing the fruit sector. New rootstocks do not enter the market very often. M200 is the result of more than five decades of rigorous research and trials, underlining the rarity and importance of such a launch in the world of varietal selection," explains Fiona Davidson, Dalival and IFO communications director. "Receiving this award is a source of immense pride for Dalival and IFO, and above all a recognition of the collective work that has gone into bringing this innovation to the market," explains Thierry Ligonnière, managing director of Dalival. "With the M200, we are offering arboriculturists a solution that meets the challenges of tomorrow."

A product of the East Malling Research Station program (UK), this rootstock is the result of a cross between Robusta 5 - known for its resistance to cold, fire blight and phytophthora - and Ottawa 3, a Canadian selection renowned for its tolerance to cold. "As a partner of East Malling Research and the exclusive worldwide distributor of this rootstock, we oversaw its implementation, testing and development."

M200: a host of advantages to meet today's technical challenges
The M200 rootstock stands out for its technical characteristics, which meet the current challenges facing arboriculturists and offer a number of advantages:

- Tolerance and robustness: "M200 has very good tolerance of phytophthora and good behavior in the face of fire blight. It is tolerant of soil fatigue and poor soils, a key advantage when faced with replanting constraints."

- Greater vigor and productivity: "This new rootstock also has greater vigor than M9 and G11, and 20-35% greater productivity than M9, making it ideal for double-axis or multi-axis orchards."

- Suitable for organic farming: "It meets the needs of organic growers or those converting to organic farming, thanks to its combination of vigor, productivity and robustness."

- Easy maintenance: "Finally, it produces few shoots and bushes, reducing the need for herbicides and insecticides."

M200: an innovation that attracted a great deal of interest
The M200 innovation did not go unnoticed at the event. "We had a lot of technical questions and discussions about alternatives to M9 and G11 with the growers who came to see us at our booth. We had some fascinating and highly technical discussions about rootstocks that we could not have had fifteen years ago. It is a very different event from the ones in Berlin or Madrid. At SIVAL, growers come for advice, and this award has enabled us to initiate even more technical exchanges on planting needs according to clients' orchards."

The award adds to an already impressive list
One more SIVAL d'Or, adding to a fine list of awards that include the Tonik apple (SIVAL d'Argent 2024), the Canopy apple (SIVAL d'Or 2023), the Kissabel apple (SIVAL d'Or 2022), two resistant apricot varieties (SIVAL de Bronze 2022), the Fred pear (SIVAL d'Or 2020) and the G11 rootstock (SIVAL d'Or 2017).

In anticipation of the next edition of SIVAL in 2026, Dalival will be present at Fruit Logistica in Berlin (Hall 27, Booth F50).
