Ukraine imported vegetables worth more than $100 million in the first half of 2023

Ukraine imported vegetables, including potatoes, carrots, beets, cabbage, and onions, worth $100.253 million from January to June 2023.

The total volume of potato imports amounted to 12.476 thousand tons, worth $8.641 million. Greece, Romania, and Azerbaijan were the main suppliers of potatoes.

Ukraine also imported significant amounts of onions, cabbage, carrots, and beets, spending $93.882 million on purchases. Onion purchases on foreign markets accounted for 0.16% of the country's total imports, while cabbage, carrots, and beets accounted for 0.09% and 0.06% respectively.

The top three onion suppliers are Poland, the Netherlands and China.

Poland emerged as the leader in cabbage deliveries to Ukraine, followed by Macedonia in second place, and the Netherlands in third. Poland was also one of the leading suppliers of root vegetables, including carrots, beets, and celery ($11.072 million). The top three suppliers of root vegetables to Ukraine included the Netherlands and Turkey.

Tomatoes and cucumbers accounted for a small share of Ukraine's total vegetable imports, at 0.29% and 0.07% respectively. Turkey was the main supplier of tomatoes (77.4%) and also a significant supplier of cucumbers (46.8%). Poland and the Netherlands were also included among the top three tomato suppliers to Ukraine, while Romania and Poland were cucumber suppliers.
