During April 2023 consumers in world markets enjoyed about 5.81 million, that is an increase of 4,56%, more boxes of bananas from Ecuador compared to April last year (2022.)
A total of 90.45 million boxes were shipped to their top three export markets with 31.04% going to the European Union, 24.42% to Russia and 12.49% to the Middle East. Cumulative exports of banana boxes from January to April 2023 stands at 133.13 million boxes compared to 127.32 million boxes during the same period last season. The world leaders in banana exports has seen a decrease to Eastern Europe 17.66%, Europe EFTA 20.94%, and Asia 12.08%. The statistics are based on the latest reports issued by the Association of Banana Exporters of Ecuador (AEBE) and the Ecuador Banana Marketing and Export Association (Acorbanec).
“Regarding the summary of the Banana Weekly Market Sense for the month of April, it is highlighted that, at the level of sales in dollars, the barometer presented a decreasing trend in the global consensus of the value chain experts, going from 1.85 in the week 13 to 1.65 reported in week 17. Indicating that sales in dollars decreased in the sector,” according to AEBE.
“Of the 133.13 million boxes of bananas exported from January to April 2023, 86.22% correspond to 22XU boxes; 9.36% to boxes 208; 3.54% correspond to organic bananas; 0.85% correspond to Baby Banana BB; 0.02% correspond to purple bananas WB or Red Banana. There is evidence of a growth of the 22XU box of +8.57%, but a reduction is reflected in the other types of boxes,” states Acorbanec.
The top Ecuadorian ports are Guayaquil with 85.81 million boxes (64.46% participation), Puerto Bolívar with 31.57 million boxes (23.72% participation) and Posorja with 15.75 million boxes (11.83% share).
