Fairtrasa is proud to announce the appointment of Ramon Alcedo as the new director of Fairtrasa Peru S.A. Fairtrasa Peru is part of the Fairtrasa Group, a vertically integrated global organic fresh fruit producer, exporter and importer, with field offices in Latin America.
Fairtrasa’s local offices provide a tailor-made combination of training, pre-financing and support to small-scale family farmers to empower them to become successful, certified organic agro-entrepreneurs, and break the cycle of poverty.
Alcedo has extensive experience in exactly this type of work. With degrees in agronomy as well as project management and agricultural investment, he served as the general manager of a traditional Peruvian agricultural company for the first half of the last decade, while during the past five years, he has managed the operations of Bananica’s Smallholders’ Division.
Bananica, with a similar ethos to Fairtrasa, supports small-scale growers in implementing regenerative organic practices and accessing premium markets. Alcedo has a track record in helping smallholders enhance the quality, efficiency and sustainability of their production and in improving socioeconomic conditions for hundreds of farmers and their communities in his native Peru.
He joins Fairtrasa at a time when the company has started to move beyond standard organic requirements towards advanced regenerative agricultural methods, in order to preserve soil health for future generations and improve farmers’ climate resilience. In parallel, the company has embarked on an ambitious expansion plan, with the Peruvian Fairtrasa office aiming to provide support and export channels to a vastly larger group of growers.
Alcedo has an unmatched combined expertise in both sustainable agriculture and farmer development, and is therefore the best person to help Fairtrasa Peru make rapid progress toward its targets.
