Seedless varieties of table grapes of foreign selection will be planted in Uzbekistan. Seedlings of seven varieties of foreign selection of table grapes are currently grown using the in-vitro method, including Venus, Vanessa, Romulus, Lakemont and Ximrod varieties, in special greenhouses of the National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture. At the next stage, the seedlings will be adapted to local climatic conditions, EastFruit experts inform.
Selected seedless varieties of table grapes are characterized by high yield and frost resistance. In addition, they are very resistant to various diseases and therefore suitable for organic production, according to a special video report by the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.
Besides table grape varieties, the greenhouses of the National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture in the Kibray district of the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan, also grow seedlings of 10 wine grape varieties and several types of rootstocks, including Fercal, Cober 5BB, and Cober A125.
In total, 1 million grape seedlings are grown in the greenhouses of the National Center, including 7 varieties of table grapes and 10 wine varieties. The seedlings will begin to be planted on experimental fields in spring 2023 and will also be transferred to farms for laying new grape plantations.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, in addition to grape varieties of foreign selection, grape seedlings of local selection, such as “Rizamat”, “Taifi”, “Kora Khusayni” (“Black Husaini”), “Sogdiana”, “Mercedes”, “Ok Kishmish” (“White Kishmish”), “Kora Kishmish” (“Black Kishmish”) are grown in the greenhouses of the National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture, using the “in-vitro” method.
