COVID-19 affected most industries, but in the case of mandarins and lemons, and thanks to the health benefits of citrus fruits, they’ve been in a privileged position in the market. The impact of the pandemic on consumption habits of mandarins and lemons increased global demand for this product and its leadership in the agro-export basket was consolidated.
In turn, Salix Fruits will introduce its new brand, Mundos, and introduce its bags of mandarins of Peruvian and Moroccan origin, as well as lemons from Argentina, Mexico, Turkey and Spain.
Salix Fruits will introduce its new Mundos brand at the upcoming Southern Exposure show.
At the upcoming Southern Exposure, organized by The Southeast Produce Council, which takes place March 3-5 in Orlando, FL, the company will feature Mundos bags to supply this constantly growing market.
Peru is the leading exporter of mandarins in Latin America, thanks to the popularity of its Satsuma, Clementine and W. Murcotts varieties, the latter two being highly valued for their color and for being seedless.
The demand for Moroccan citrus in the U.S. is growing noticeably. Salix completes its year-round supply of mandarins with easy-to-peel fruit out of this origin. Having finished with earlier varieties, Salix is currently packing Nadorcott mandarins in its Mundos bags and distributing them to customers throughout the U.S.
The Mundos line will include bagged lemons and mandarins.
Regarding lemons, Argentina is one of the largest producers in the world. Mexico has also become increasingly important with supplying lemons to the U.S. Turkish lemons have gained popularity in the past years, and the Mediterranean coast of Spain has become the main production area. With these origins, Salix can guarantee the supply of this gold citrus 12 months of the year.
“Salix takes a step further in the supply chain, reaching the final consumer with its own brand, through supermarkets,” says Juana Elortondo, sales manager for the United States. “Handling the bagging process directly, Salix also ensures a quality standard highlighting the Mundos brand that satisfies consumers."
Salix hopes its Mundos bags will provide a better option of value and quality to supermarkets and consumers.
"We plan to supply Mundos bags to our customers continuously throughout the year with citrus from different origins, maintaining quality and a competitive price," says Elortondo. "Salix hopes to generate value and continue growing as a key citrus supplier in the United States.”
