The price of Argentine garlic #1 sizes is expected to increase

Forecasts for Argentina's garlic industry are promising. Demand is expected to increase in the holiday season. In 2021, the foodservice industry is expected to recover thanks to the approval and distribution of the vaccine for COVID-19. As a result, demand for food products should begin to increase steadily, including the demand for garlic.

Many growers and shippers have stated that one of the challenges they faced this year was the fluctuations in demand. So far the garlic industry has been able to sustain the change in demand at the national and international level, even with rains at harvest time. Thus, even if the sector's growth projections have to be downgraded, producers have proved that they'll find solutions to face this challenge.

Given the lower volume of the #1 caliber garlic, prices are expected to remain approximately 15-20% higher than last year. The higher volumes of #2 sizes will likely have the opposite effect and result in lower prices. The returns of the campaign, however, will depend on the amount of #1 and #2 garlic that producers have.
