Peruvian banana shipments decrease by 60.8%

According to data from the Agrodata Peru website, the volume of Peruvian banana exports between January and July 2020 fell by 60.8% when compared to the same period of the previous year, going from 138,763,158 kilos in 2019 to 54,440,305 kilos.

The value of shipments also decreased by 60.8%, going from  $95,555,146 dollars last year to $37,424,572 dollars this year.

Monthly dispatches were as follows:

January: 20,469,744 kilos worth $14,073,549 (In 2019 the country exported 20,587,037 kilos worth $14,387,977).
February: 8,869,325 kilos worth $6,076,459 (In 2019, the country exported 17,467,855 kilos for US $ 11,970,783).
March: 2,240,303 kilos for US $ 1,544,300 (in March of 2019 Peru exported 24,221,520 kilos for US $ 16,695,834).
April: 4,195,201 kilos worth US $ 2,773,310 (In April 2019 the country exported 21,388,805 kilos $14,696,757).
May: 9,274,068 kilos worth $6,356,842 (In May 2019 the country exported 18,093,606 kilos for $ 12,440,823).
June: 5,090,156 kilos worth  $3,615,100 (In June 2019 Peru exported 19,964,768 kilos worth $13,667,858).
July: 4,301,508 kilos for US $2,985,012 (In July of 2019, the country exported 17,039,567 kilos for $11, 695,114).


The main destinations for the Peruvian bananas during this period were the Netherlands with $10,423,546 (28% of the total), the United States with $7,350,300 (20%), and Panama with $6,600,875 ( 18%). These three destinations account for 66% of the total.

They are followed by Belgium with $4,164,874 (11%), the Republic of Korea with $2,214,004 (6%), Germany with $2,071,070 (6%), Finland with $1,593,232 (4%), Japan with $939,415 (3%), Italy with $884,670 (2%), the United Kingdom with  $740,906 (2%), and others with $466,454 (1%).

The main banana exporting companies in Peru between January and July 2020 were Agronegocios Los Angeles, with sales of $3,951,000; Pronatur, with US $ 2,475,000; Cooperativa Agraria APPBOSA, with  $2,380,000; Bananica, with $1,982,000; Andean Natural Products Export Import, with $1,891,000; Cooperativa Agraria APBOSMAM, with $1,782,000; the Association of Small Organic Producers from Querecotillo, with US $1,707,000, and Capebosan - Jibito, with $1,446,000.
