The ginger produced in 2018 is currently entering the market. Manager Zhang of Anqiu City Yihai Foods Co., Ltd. gave an overview of recent conditions in the export market.
"Last year we supplied the global market with more than 490 shipping containers of ginger. We export fresh ginger to the Middle East and the USA. We also export sun-dried and air-dried ginger, as well as fresh ginger, to the European market. The Middle East is our main export market. In this production season we've already sold a large volume to the Middle East because traders there are currently stocking their warehouses. However, the supply to the Middle East will begin to slightly decline next week. When the ginger import season in the Middle East comes to an end, the import season in the European market will begin. The current price of ginger is around 1,500-1,600 USD per ton. We expect the price to rise." This is according to manager Zhang.
"The orders from Bangladesh and Pakistan are quite substantial this year. The export volume to these two countries is extremely large. This development continues to push the price up. We transport more than 100 shipping containers of ginger per week to these two countries. Each container holds around 20 tons. We expect the next shipment to arrive in mid-August. Afterwards, their demand for ginger will gradually decline."
