Cape gooseberry exports between January and April 2019 amounted to US $14.9 million, i.e. 11.2% more than the $13.4 million achieved in the same period of 2018.
This increase has been driven by the Netherlands, the main export market, which accounts for 69% of Colombian cape gooseberry exports with 10.3 million dollars. This country has registered the highest increase in sales, with a 41% increase in shipments.
The second export market for this product is the United Kingdom, which accounts for 10.2% of exports (1.52 million dollars). In the respective period, it registered an increase of 52%.
Belgium is another strategic market for Colombian cape gooseberries and accounted for 5% of exports this year worth 742,000 dollars. Sales to this market grew by 49.9%.
The Vice Minister of Foreign Trade, Laura Valdivieso Jimenez, celebrated this increase in sales and highlighted that one of the strategies of the Foreign Trade Policy is the use of trade agreements and strategic markets. The diversification of the exportable supply is also part of that purpose.
