Peru: Casma will soon be able to export mangoes to Chile

The province of Casma may soon export its mangoes to Chile, after the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) of this nation certified the plantations of that fruit.

SAG specialists, accompanied by their counterparts from the Plant Quarantine area of the National Agrarian Health Service (SENASA), evaluated how product was being processed, the safety of the establishments, and the hydrothermal treatment applied to the product.

According to the procedure, they tested the hot water tanks, which allowed the certification of this plant for export.

A hydrothermal treatment consists of immersing the fruit in hot water to kill, inactivate, eliminate pests or sterilize them. The temperature and time that the fruit will remain submerged will be established in the agreement to export the fruit reached between Senasa and importing countries.

Casma will start exporting its mangoes to Chile from the end of January next year, when the production campaign takes place. This month, mangoes will be brought from Piura to Casma, for processing and subsequent shipment to the southern country.

Last year Ancash produced 40,228 tons during the Kent mango export season. Currently, the region exports fresh mango to the Netherlands, Indonesia, Russia, France, Italy, Germany, and Japan.
