Last week, the race was on for Pueblo County farmers to pick all of the green chilli peppers before the expected hard freeze comes. When the freeze arrives, that’s the signal of the end of chilli growing season out on the mesa.
The wet weather week presented a challenge for crews to pick the chillis -and other crops- in time. Muddy fields complicate driving and walking.
