The North Carolina Department of Agriculture is asking federal lawmakers for more than $300 million to help the clean-up and recovery from Hurricane Florence. Instead of preparing for the fall harvest, many North Carolina farmers are left to salvage what's left of their devastated crops.
One example of this is Moore's Produce, located in Johnston County. It brings a variety of vegetables to the state farmer's market in Raleigh, but Florence now has simply destroyed the 40-acre farm.
The North Carolina Farm Bureau estimates the state had about $1.2 billion in crop damage. That's double the damage from Hurricane Matthew.
