The Adesva Agro-business Technology Centre, based in Lepe and promoted by the Council of Knowledge, Research and Universities of the Government of Andalusia, is working on a total of 12 agro-food innovation projects, 10 of which are initiatives developed to respond to the demands of leading agro-industry companies that are committed to R+D+i. The other 2 are initiatives financed with European funds and which count with the participation of companies and entities from various countries.
Some of the most relevant projects include the development of an innovative system to advance the strawberry production (compatible with the techniques currently used in the province), as well as the obtainment of a strawberry variety adapted to the conditions of the province of Huelva. The results of a project to improve the competitiveness and quality of strawberries and raspberries in the province of Huelva have also recently been presented.
There are other noteworthy projects, such as the European Biomulch Project, carried out in the framework of the Horizon 2020 program. The goal is to obtain a biodegradable padded plastic that can help reduce the industry's environmental impact and which is fully biodegraded within a period of 60 days.
The Biomulch team consists of Grupo Morera & Vallejo Industrial as project leader; the Technological Centre for Footwear and Plastic of Murcia (Cetec); the German company FKUR; the Dutch company Thatchtec BV, specialised in microorganisms; as well as the Agroindustrial Technology Centre Adesva.
The trial of this project, which is in its final stage, has been carried out in the experimental farm of Adesva, located in the municipality of Lepe. The results will be presented at the headquarters of the Adesva Technological Centre on 18 September 2018.
