Beiliu City in Guangxi enjoyed an unexpectedly abundant harvest of longans, but this did not bring the farmers any joy. The purchase price of longans in Beiliu is low at 2-3 yuan [0.29-0.44 USD] per kg. At its lowest, the price even dropped to 1 yuan [0.15 USD] per kg. However, even under these circumstances very few visiting traders purchase longan.
The estimated production volume of longan in Yulin City this year is around 130 thousand tons, which is an increase of 15% in comparison with the same period last year. Most longan production areas in Guangxi and indeed throughout China enjoyed an abundant harvest. The longan production volume in Guangxi is estimated at around 652.3 thousand tons, which is an increase of 10% in comparison with the same period last year. The major longan production areas in Guangdong, Yunnan, and Fujian also enjoyed an abundant harvest. It is normal for the price to slightly drop when the production volume increases.
