The price of cabbage showed an increasing trend this week as volumes decreased. The main production areas currently supplying the market are in Shanxi and secondary supply comes locally from Henan. Shanxi cabbages account for 70% of market supply. They enter the market in June and leave in October. Shanxi cabbage is still in the early phase of supply.
Bad weather has also delayed production. It has been raining a lot this week in the production areas. The continuous rain delayed the cabbage harvest which pushed up prices and, lastly, the price of cabbage was relatively low last year, which means that farmers reduced the surface area devoted to cabbage production. The price of cabbage was higher this year when cabbage entered the market than it was last year.
