Ukraine: Apricot prices rise, but remain lower than last year

Ukrainian producers are getting higher prices for their apricots, as evidenced by monitoring data from EastFruit. According to market analysts, the fruit is currently between 15 and 20% more expensive than a week earlier.

Thus, at the moment, Ukrainian producers are selling apricots for 12-17 UAH/kg ($0.46-0.65 per kg), depending on the quality and region. A week ago, the prices for this stone fruit in Ukraine did not exceed 15 UAH/kg ($0.57 per kg).

The reason for this price rise, according to the producers, is a seasonal reduction in the supply of apricots, as the sale of the early varieties is coming to an end. Also, there has been an activation of trade in virtually all categories.

However, it is worth stressing that even after such a significant increase in prices, apricots on Ukrainian farms are still currently 15-20% cheaper than in mid-July 2017. Such a price difference, according to industry experts, is associated with a significant drop in the production of stone fruit in general, and apricots in particular, in the country last season, as a number of regions were hit by frosts and heavy snowfalls in April 2017. As a result, some farms lost up to 100% of the early stone fruit varieties.
