Iceberg lettuce, kohlrabi and the like have become more expensive
While a head of iceberg lettuce cost 54 cents last year, now it's already 68 cents on average. A kohlrabi costs 42 cents, 6 cents more than the year before. For a kilo of broccoli, consumers currently have to pay 7 cents more than in the previous year.
For fruit, however, the outlook is much better this year. German fruit ripens much earlier than in previous years. Regarding apples, pears, plums and cherries, for instance, farmers are expecting a lush harvest - unlike last year, when there still were bouts of frost in April.
