Germany: Fruit & Veg produce worth more than 2 billion euros

In 2017, 60 manufacturing companies in North Rhine-Westphalia produced fruit and vegetable products valued at 2.1 billion euros. As reported by Information und Technik Nordrhein-Westfalen as the country's official statistics office, sales volumes rose by 5.0 percent compared with the previous year. More than two-thirds (71.8 percent) of the fruit and vegetable products produced in North Rhine-Westphalia came from the districts of Düsseldorf and Cologne.
 
With a production value of 682 million euros (+8.8 percent compared to 2016), the largest proportion of fruit and vegetable products produced in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2017 was fruit and vegetable juices (non-fermented and non-alcoholic), followed by processing of fruits and nuts with 677 million euros (+4.6 percent). The sales value of potatoes and potato products was 205 million euros (+4.3 percent).
 
The value of nationwide produced fruit and vegetable products in 2017 was 7.4 billion euros (+2.1 percent); 28.2 percent of the nationwide produced fruit and vegetable products came from North Rhine-Westphalia. This region’s processed fruits and vegetables accounted for 31.4 percent, fruit and vegetable juices accounted for 31.1 percent. The proportion of potatoes and potato products produced in NRW was 14.8 percent.
