Own cultivation
In the company warehouse of the Obst and Gemüse Kontor Hamburg Inh, Stefanie Kunz has a large number of employees deployed early in the morning. The last lots of vegetables and salads are washed, cut and dried using the ultra modern processing line. “On our cutting line we process a large number of fresh products every day, without any additives. Among others, homes, hotels and restaurants in the Greater Hamburg region, all the way to the district of Lübeck are supplied by us with convenience goods. We also have a good relation with the Hamburg airport,” says managing director Mehmet Celebi.
The wide range of products includes very diverse products, such as cress mixtures and now peeled asparagus as well. In the vegetable range, the Hamburg-based company is currently undergoing a period of upheaval, because it is gradually switching to local lettuces and leafy vegetables. “We have a direct partnership with a farmer who grows both outdoor and greenhouse produce for us, on about 6 hectares. As a result, we are able to offer -among other things- Arugula, coloured lettuce, spinach and radicchio, all seasonal and very flexible.”
Sweet potato
Everything that is not available from own cultivation, is procured from trading companies on the local wholesale market. Since the company is located in the basement of the wholesale market hall -directly below the sales area- the routes are short and the purchased goods can be delivered directly. “Especially sliced sweet potato is becoming increasingly popular nowadays. We process these into fries and, among other things, have been supplying a regional headquarters of a leading supermarket chain for four years.”
