China: Golden Fuji apple gains popularity

"Golden Fuji Apple has another name, Creamy Fuji Apple, which is a special species of Red Fuji Apple. The current main producing area lies in Yantai, Shandong. Since they are covered in bags during the growth process, their skins glow with a beautiful color of yellow. However, they still taste crisp. Just like Fuji Apples, its skin is thin, " said Mr. Gangchun Wang of Lufeng Agricultural Cultivation Ltd in Muping District of Yantai.

"In recent two years, they are being sold very fast in the Chinese market. More orchard farmers pay attention to the quality of Golden Fuji Apples. Normally, the harvest season falls on sometime around Oct. 23. Therefore, compared to Fuji Apples, the growing time of Golden Fuji Apples is one month longer, that's why they taste better."

"In China, a large country of apple cultivation, the planting area is huge, with many different varieties, including Fuji Apple, Gala Apple. The reason why Golden Fuji Apples are popular is that Red Fuji apples become too ordinary and cannot offer any new taste. However, Golden Fuji Apples have developed tastes on the basis of the red ones, which stimulates consumers' buying appetites.
