Myanmar is only allowed to export eight crops to China
“An AQSIQ certification is needed in order to export products to China. Furthermore, there are intergovernmental negotiations necessary to be listed for exporting crops to China. Only listed items can be exported, and Myanmar has eight such listed items. Half of them can be transported into China via any route, but the other half -watermelon, mango, sweet cucumber and plum- can only be imported through the city of Ruili,” said Kyaw Thu, secretary for MFVP. “And we will try to get more crops included in the list.”
According to an elevenmyanmar.com article, Myanmar earns US$ 140 million through exporting crops to China every year. The country mostly exports watermelon, mango and sweet cucumber. Myanmar exports about 600,000 tons of watermelon, 150,000 tons of sweet cucumber and 400,000 tons of mango to China every year.
