White radishes are now entering the market, and their price has slumped, down to around 0.56 yuan per kilogram. The local purchasing price is even lower, and dropping still. The price is now even lower than the cost price, so many farmers are losing money.
There are several reasons for this: Firstly, as large quantities of white radishes are now entering the market, the supply increases, leading to a drop in price. Secondly, because cold air has already arrived in China, some products are delayed, and will enter the market later. Therefore, the supply will once again increase in the short run. Lastly, because of heavy rain during the summer, the overall vegetable prices have increased, encouraging many farmers to increase their production area. That is another reason why the price for white radishes will drop.
The current price of white radishes is not very high. Because there are many purchasers on the market, they are selling rather fast. From the trends in the past few years we can deduce that the price will drop even further from the start of winter. Because the vegetable supply on the market is abundant, the prices remain weak. If there is no extreme weather, it will be hard for the price of white radishes to recover.
