The director of ProEcuador, Juan Patricio Navarro, presented some facts that show the potential of Ecuador to function as a centre of opportunities for trade and investment. “Ecuador is a gateway to Latin America, which is a 300 million people market. Moreover, Ecuador offers opportunities to the Agroindustry sector. It has more than 200 microclimates spread over four geographic areas such as Costal lowlands, Andean mountains, Amazon region and the Galapagos Islands.” He continues by explaining that there are seven weather conditions throughout the country. “All the different climate conditions result in 2 to 3 harvest opportunities in a year for some products. Besides, our country has the most solid system of cooperatives and small-farmers in Latin America.”

In addition, he mentions that 30% of the world banana market depends on Ecuador’s production. “Organic palm oil production is growing due to Dutch investment. Ecuador is the second largest shrimp exporter to Europe. Over 60% of the fine flavour cacao comes from Ecuador. Lastly, the Ecuadorian flower industry has developed and is still supported by Dutch investment and technology.”

Andrea Montoya explains that Ecuador is promoted in The Netherlands, because the Netherlands is an important market for them. “This isn't just for trade opportunities, but also for investment. It’s important for us to share information with the decision makers and offer them all the support they may require to establish a business in Ecuador. As well as to support and give information on imports from Ecuador to The Netherlands.”
