Cameroon looks to invest in cashew nut production

Cameroon is a small producer of cashew nuts with an annual production of 108 tons, but the government sees it as an important economic development opportunity for the country.

Therefore, as part of the framework of its agricultural development plan, Cameroon intends to intensify Cashew nut production to make it an important revenue source for the government and the producers.

“The cashew nuts’ potential for growth prompted us to elaborate a national scheme for the sector’s development”, Henri Eyebe Ayissi, the minister of agriculture, said.

In this regard, Cameroon, with the support of the German development cooperation, sent a delegation to Cote d’Ivoire, the West African country in which Cashew nuts are already a good source of revenue for farmers.
