China: Typhoons cause high veg prices in Shenzhen

Furious storms have been attacking Guangdong province since the end of August. The Typhoons Hato, Pakhar and Mawar followed one after the other, causing vegetable prices in Shenzhen to become highly volatile.

Weather factors are the main reason for recent price fluctuations. Because of the heavy rains, green vegetable production in Shenzhen, Huizhou and Dongguan decreased. Prolonged rains affected other cultivation areas, too. The vegetable supply was tight all over the Chinese market, which made an impact on prices. According to preliminary estimates, by the time of China's National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival prices will keep rising.
