A Victorian owned and operated fresh produce business is working with the National Union of Workers to repay past workers claiming underpayment.
Recently, A&G Lamattina & Sons and the NUW entered into discussions about establishing a process to assist employees who “consider that certain past entitlements may be outstanding”.
This comes after the Fair Work Commission last year granted NUW officials special leave to look into Lamattina’s Boneo, Mornington Peninsula, farm and view all employment records.
The investigation was approved following allegations workers were being exploited and were being paid “as little as $10 per hour”.
But the search was called off after the business was granted an application for a hearing before the commission in December last year.
The process for dealing with the claims has been agreed upon and will be overseen by representatives from both the NUW and Lamattina.
NUW national secretary Tim Kennedy said this meant Lamattina employees could access a straightforward process to seek repayments.
“By submitting a claim, workers will receive reimbursement if they’re entitled to it,” Mr Kennedy said.
