Freskita Bananas:

'International banana prices have dropped dramatically'

International banana prices have dropped dramatically in recent weeks. From peaks that reached $12 for fruit only between weeks 13-17, through more competitive prices that remained until week 25 (above $6,50 for fruit only), all the way to suffering its lowest hours currently.

However this is not news for Ecuadorian exporters, who always see the summer heat of the northern hemisphere as their most serious threat between July and September.

"This is also the case for Freskita Bananas. Despite starting our exports just at the beginning of this year, we were already prepared to face the storm and keep our volumes constant." said Gaetano Leone from Freskita Bananas.

"The key is to remember that this is a 52-week business and not live in the moment. The most difficult customers in terms of quality are also the most serious ones, and to build long-term, formal relationships with them is the only remedy for the temporary market turbulence."

Freskita is headquartered in Guayaquil, near the largest banana port in the world, and they have production in the provinces of Los Rios and Guayas, two of the three main banana production areas in Ecuador. Europe is their main market where they arrive with an average volume between 10 to 15 containers per week.

"The quality of our product and the level of our service has allowed us to maintain a regular volume with our customers, with whom we seek to ensure a more significant volume contracted for next year." continued Gaetano.

"Quality and not quantity is our motto. We are not impressed by spectacular volume requirements for a few weeks from some customers. We prefer to focus on more regular volumes throughout the year, so we can guarantee our high standard.

We work with our brand name Freskita, in addition to Don Leone as well as the various brands of our clients."
