Spain: Xylella strain suspected to come from France

The strain of the Xylella bacterium detected for the first time in the Region of Valencia in an almond field of Guadalest is the Multiplex, as reported by the Councillor of Agriculture, Elena Cebrián, to Spanish Minister Tejerina and the Councillors of the other regions. Confirmation has been possible after the genomic analyses carried out in a CSIC laboratory in Cordoba.

This strain mostly attacks almonds, plums, peaches, blueberries, oaks, bananas and, to a lesser extent, olives. The scientists suspect that, given that it is the Multiplex, it could have arrived with the importation of some type of host plant from France, where this strain has already caused serious damage.
