New horticulture trade data reports, released by Hort Innovation Australia, revealed that almond exports have sky-rocketed by 74 per cent from 2016 to 2017, from 3,470 to 6,039 tonnes. Apricot exports also saw substantial growth and tripled, according to the findings.

India remained the largest export destination for Australian almonds, with 1,888 tonnes. Australia exported 1,309 tonnes of almond kernels to Spain, the second largest export market in Q1.

India and Spain together accounted for a 53% volume share of total Australian exports in Q1 2017, with India accounting for the largest volume share at 31%.

Compiled by market researchers Euromonitor International, the Horticulture Trade Intelligence reports capture insights for key fruit, nut and vegetable products in Australia from January to March 2017.
