McCain gets the go ahead for £100M UK factory expansion

Potato processor McCain Foods has won approval and may now officially expand its Scarborough factory which is part of a £100 million investment into its operations.

The manufacturer has been given the go ahead to expand and upgrade the facility and to change the use of its cold stores to new production areas.

"One of the purposes of the production facility renewal is to introduce new efficient handling and storage equipment. The proposed extensions at the southern end of the existing plant, facing towards Cayton Low Road, will facilitate the improved equipment, which is why these extensions to the potato receiving part of the plant are being made," McCain said in the planning statement.
