Opening Ceremony of Agroalimentaria 2017

Yesterday, the 17th of May, the official opening of the exhibition took place. Some companies were still working on the finishing touches at their booths, when and Osmar C. Benítez - JAD, Junta Agroempresarial Dominicana Inc started the ceremony. The exhibition is organized by JAD and as well CEI-RD. Many people came to the ceremony, about 400 people were expected to join. Benítez welcomed all the people at the head table. As well he welcomed all the people there and gave his gratitude to everybody who made this event possible.

"This year the fair has more than 100 exhibitors and about 193 buyers from 35 countries. We expect to conduct more than 3,000 business meetings between buyers and exporters, which could generate projected revenues of around US $ 350 million in exports, "said Benítez.

Besides Benítez, George Mansfield, the Chairman of the organizing committee, also gave a speech. He said this is the most important food fair in the Carribean. As well Luis Henry Molina, director of the co-organisation CEI-RD, said promosing words about the exposition. "The more our people grow, the more our quality of life grows".

All of them were proud people explaining that the Dominican Republic has many different sectors, which are performing well on the international markets. These different sectors will also be presented at the show - from fresh fruits and vegetables to rum, cigars and cacao. Besides the exhibition, there will be a matchmaking session, conferences and gastronomical activities during this event.

The United Nations Economic forum for Latin America and the Carribbean (CEPAL) published its annual report on the economic evolution of Central America and the Dominican Republic. The projected growth is 45% on average for this region. This report expects the Dominican Republic to perform best in 2017 with a GDP growth of 6.2%. Agriculture is one of the most dynamic economic sectors which contributes to this projection.
