Moldova seeks abolition of customs duties on exports to Russia
Chisinau is seeking to abolish customs duties on fruit, vegetable, canned food and wine exports to Russia. This, according to RIA Novosti, was announced by Moldovan President Igor Dodon at a business conference held on 17 March in Moscow.
"The agro-industrial sector is facing several issues, with the first being access to the Russian market. We have already managed to increase the number of companies allowed to export, and in the coming weeks there will be more visits from experts of the Rosselkhoznadzor and Rospotrebnadzor," said Dodon.
"There is a second problem, which concerns customs duties. Yes, our companies are back in the Russian market, but the customs duties imposed on agro-industrial products make our products less competitive. Today I will address this issue once more. We are seeking the abolition of customs duties, at least at this stage, for four commodity items: wine, fruits, vegetables and canned goods. I hope that in the near future we will be able to achieve this," added the President.
