Review of the market situation in Jiangnan city (Guangdong province) during its 10th week

China: Durian and avocados increase in price

On the 8th of March, the price for Thai durian suddenly increased. 17kg (approximately 5-6 pieces) now costs 111EUR (820 RMB), up 14% on a week ago. Only a few shipments have recently arrived and the quality is questionable but, despite this, sales are unaffected and the durians are going fast. Sales of Chilean avocados are also healthy even though the average price has gone up by 13%.

For a chest of 5.5kg, containing 30 durians, the price is 330 RMB (45 EUR); for a small chest of 4kg, containing only 22 durians, the price stands at 190 RMB (26 EUR).

The change in sales of the popular and tasty imported blueberries and kiwis was not significant last week. Circumstances for blueberrie are generally still favorable. Although they are rather soft and have some rotten parts, a box of 1.5kg still goes for 150 RMB (20 EUR). 3,3 kg of kiwis, a total of 25 pieces, goes for 240 RMB (32,5 EUR), 20 kg of sweet oranges from America, 72 pieces in total, have a price of 360 RMB (49 EUR). All of these fruits are selling fast.

Prices in the apple market generally showed a drop. 113 pieces of American Joy Tree apples cost 330 RMB or 45 euros (last week this was 350 RMB or 47 euros). 72 pieces of American Red Delicious go for 200 RMB (27 EUR) (last week 230 RMB (31 EUR)), 72 Red Rose apples are sold for 520 RMB (70 EUR) (last week 540 RMB (73 EUR)).

There's a big price difference in the grape market, because they are currently trying to make up for the bad quality of the last shipment. South-African seedless dark grapes of average quality go for 110 RMB (15 EUR), but sales are slow. Chilean seedless dark grapes cost 180 RMB (24 EUR), Chilean red grapes cost 160 RMB (22 EUR). These two are selling slightly better.
