Poland: Record frozen vegetable production expected this season

According to data from Euromonitor, the market value of Polish frozen fruits and vegetables amounted to 806 million złoty (about 186.90 million Euro) in 2015, and in 2016 this figure increased to 824 million złoty (about 191.07 million Euro).

Regarding the prospects for the 2016/2017 campaign, Thomas Smolenski, from the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Food Economy, explains that "frozen fruits and vegetables dominate Poland's exports in this sector. We already have the current forecasts for the 2016/17 season, in which we will produce a record volume of frozen fruits, reaching 500 thousand tonnes, or 5 percent more than in the previous season."

Likewise, there will be an increase in the production of frozen vegetables. "The vegetable production in the 2016/17 campaign is forecast to reach a record 655 thousand tonnes, or 7 percent more than a year ago," he added.

Very successful year
Overall, it will be a good season for frozen food producers, affirms Thomas Smolenski. "The current 2016/17 season will be extremely successful in terms of volume and exports. Only the prices will be worse, as some will stabilise, while others will record declines," he explains.

In any case, the much better sales results achieved should compensate for the price declines.
