Calypso® mangoes from Australia to arrive in US this week
Giumarra’s Southern Hemisphere sales division is pleased to announce the start of its third season of Australian Calypso® Mangoes. First shipments arrive to the U.S. via air on Dec. 17.
Giumarra markets Calypso® Mango, the B74 variety, in partnership with Perfection Fresh Australia. It is grown in Far North Queensland, Australia.
“We are excited to bring the concept of Australia’s ‘juicy little secret’ to market with this distinct, flavorful mango,” says Craig Uchizono, V.P. Southern Hemisphere for the Giumarra Companies. “The Calypso® Mango has fiber-free flesh and a smaller seed, so there is more fruit for consumers to enjoy in every mango.”
The mango has a pleasing pink to red blush with a warm yellow background when ripe. Its flavor is sweet and creamy, with a firm, smooth texture ideal for a variety of uses.
“Once consumers taste the Calypso® Mango, we believe it will become something they ask for by name, especially given its exciting Australian background, limited availability, and great flavor,” says Kellee Harris, western region business manager for Giumarra.
The mango is sold in single layer cartons ranging from 11 to 14 count. The fruit is currently being harvested and will be available though the end of January 2017.
Giumarra offers a variety of point-of-sale materials and recipes to help promote Calypso® Mangoes as a special addition to the shopping basket.
