Growing market for Turkish dry figs in the Far East

Expectations are high for Turkish dry fig producers as they yield the highest quality in recent years and demand increases from consumers in the Far East.

Birol Celep, Chair of the Aegean Dry Produce Exporters’ Association, says although the dry fig yield has decreased (72,000 tons compared to last year’s 74,500 tons), export figures will be higher then last year due to the quality of the produce.

Celep adds that they have been enjoying a stable trade with Europe, especially France, England and Germany, and that the Far East market was a welcome addition to their list “Our biggest customers in the Far east are Thailand, Japan, Singapore, China and Vietnam”.

This season, 210 tons dry figs have already been exported to the Far East.
