It is harvest time for the giant Elbistan cabbages in the country’s fourth largest plain in southern Turkey. The cabbages, which can exceed 75 pound, have suffered from a disease for the past 4 years reducing the planting area by a third. This year, growers, who are left with a 25 acres planting area, have managed to reduce crop losses to 20% by implementing disease management strategies.
