Luis Loor, president of Ecuador's National Federation of Plantain Producers (Fenaprope), stated that, even though the price of a box of plantains for export did not surpass $7.50 dollars, producers would continue the harvest this week, despite having previously announced that they wouldn't.
He said they would take advantage of this week to negotiate contracts between exporters and associations. He also stated that they would formalize the plantain selling business in the canton.
"We have to follow an established order when doing things," said the president of Fenaprope.
In late July and early August the price of a box of plantain spiked up to $11 dollars. In the last two weeks, however, prices decreases worrying those engaged in this activity.
As a result, the representatives of the member associations of Fenaprope met to analyze the situation.
