India: Chief minister to text gov't news to farmers

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav will directly communicate with farmers in the state of Lucknow by texting them details of the government's schemes and programmes for their benefit.

Chief secretary Deepak Singhal held a review meeting of the chief minister's agenda for development on Thursday 11 August. He directed senior officials to ensure communication of information on government schemes, along with a recorded audio message of the chief minister to 7.6 million farmers on their mobile phones from August 15 and to increase this to 10 million farmers in the next three months.

Singhal also asked officials to ensure a transparent utilisation of Rs 2 billion allocated for fruit-distribution under the mid-day meal scheme in primary schools.
