Rwandan pineapple prices stable ahead of harvest

Pineapple prices in Rwanda's largest city, Kigali, continue to remain stable, according to a mini market survey conducted by the Business Times.

The survey reveals that a medium sized pineapple in the Nyarugenge and Kimironko markets costs Rwf400 and Rwf600 respectively.

However, the price is relatively high when you are buying from supermarkets like Simba with a medium sized pineapple costing up to Rwf1000.

Yet, farmers are worried, that prices could decline during the harvesting period due in the next two months.

Jeremie Ndayisenga a pineapple farmer in Kibungo, Ngoma Distric, said increased production often results in a reduction in prices.

Menawhile, prices of other horticulture produce including fruits remain stable with passion fruits costing Rwf1500 a kilo, mangoes Rwf1200 a kilo and oranges at Rwf1300.

Prices for other foodstuffs remain the same with a basin (measure) of tomatoes going for Rwf8,000 and onions costing Rwf1,000 per kilogramme.
