International Cranberry sector to meet in Argentina and Uruguay

The Argentine city of Concordia and the Uruguayan city of Salto were chosen to host the 2016 International Blueberry Organization's Summit (IBO Summit). More than four hundred producers and professionals related to the blueberry industry meet in a different blueberry productive site each year. This year, the meeting will be held in September and it will feature the presence of the highest local, provincial, and national authorities.



Hundreds of blueberry growers from around the world will meet in September to discuss and analyze new technologies and productive varieties. The IBO Summit is the annual meeting of blueberry producing and exporting countries nucleated within the International Blueberry Organization. The event is held in different countries and it's already been conducted successfully in the United States, Chile, Mexico, and Australia.


This year, the venue for the 2016 IBO Summit will be in Argentina and Uruguay, in the Concordia - Salto micro-region. The Summit will be held on September 20, 21, and 22 in Concordia's Convention Center, and it will include field trips to a packing plant in Salto, as well as to a plantation and a nursery in Concordia.

Speakers from the United States, England, Mexico, Spain, Chile, Uruguay and Argentina, among other countries, will give lectures about the characteristics of the berry market in Europe, the role of supermarkets and the consumption trends in the most demanding countries; the current situation of production and demand for blueberries worldwide; climate change in the region, and anti-hail protection, an issue that hits close to local production, among other topics.

The Summit, for which inscriptions are already open, is aimed at producers and industry professionals. The Argentinean Blueberry Committee (ABC) and its Uruguayan counterpart, UPERFRUY, are in charge of organizing the Summit.. In Concordia, the event features the participation of the Blueberry Producers Association of Argentina (Apama) and has the support of the provincial and local governments.

The city of Concordia, in Entre Rios, is the epicenter of the blueberry production in the Mesopotamian region which focuses the leading exporters of this fruit within the regional economy. During the season, the sector employs an average of nearly ten thousand people benefiting the local area the most.
