US(CA): Bok Choy supplies strong out of the Central Coast
“There is a good supply of bok choy right now,” said Tom Cline of Durant Distributing, Inc. in Santa Maria, adding that supplies may soon be coming from the Salinas Valley and California desert regions as well. “Bok Choy is definitely becoming a year round crop.”
Current bok choy prices range from $14.00 to $16.00 f.o.b. per wooden crate.
Demand for the Asian specialty vegetable is consistent, but certainly not increasing dramatically, as has been seen with other vegetable commodities like kale. Durant Distributing specializes in those commodities in addition to Napa cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, celery and lettuce.
“Our bok choy demand comes form areas with larger Asian markets, such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, the East Coast,” explained Cline.
